Photos & Clippings, Claire Webster, Providence RI Female Police Officer, 1950's

Description

Batch of photos and ephemera from estate of Claire L. Webster of Providence, RI.  Claire was the only sister and the youngest sibling of the WW2 5-Star Webster family of Providence.  All five of her older brothers were in service, and brother Edward, US Navy ARM2/c, died in 1944, when his plane was shot down in the pacific.  There's a simultaneous listing of a photo album of the family during WW2 on ebay just now, which gives more history on the family.  Search for Webster Photo Album 5 Star.  Claire became a police officer in the early 50's, finding this way to serve, one of the first female officers in Rhode Island.  I'll make a list of this group.
Large photo, 11x14", captioned on the back, "May 30th, 1952---Memorial Day Parade".  It depicts a group of Providence policemen and women, marching before their flag.  The right edge of this photo is in poor condition.
3 8x10" photos of Providence police women.  One dated 1953, one 1955, and one undated.  I think early on they were crossing guards and meter maids.
Card with Claire's photo in police uniform stapled to it, giving her birth date (12/27/25), address (12 Chambers St. Prov.), etc.
