    A native of Flint, MI, who grew up in Oakland but returned to his hometown to jump start his career, Ka'Nut hooked up with trackmasters from both locales for his debut album, 1998's Look at 'Em Now. His cousin, Steve Pitts (who has worked with Flint's Dayton Family) and Bay Area producer E-A-Ski both helped out on the LP, and Dayton Family regulars Eric and Ira Dorsey make appearances as well. Ka'Nut comes out with a hard-hitting debut with Look at Em Now. The music falls halfway between Californian gangsta and Midwest hip-hop. Witness the vocals of Ready for the World's Melvin Riley on "50 G's" — and a fleeting sense of compassion.
