    Description

Deputy US Marshal Yellow Armband Civil Rights Era Integration Desegregation #1/2
This item is from the estate of a former Deputy US Marshal who was a Marshal from 1960-1980 when he retired. This armband came directly from the son of the Marshal. It is one of two that the Marshal saved. The second one is slightly different and will be auctioned in a separate listing. The Marshal was wearing one or both armbands when he was protecting and/or escorting individuals in the following instances and more: 1) escorting the McDonogh three as they integrated McDonogh 19 school in New Orleans, LA (November 1960). 2) protecting the University of Mississippi's Lyceum and James Meredith during his enrollment and the Ole Miss riot in Oxford, MS (October 1962). 3) protecting and escorting Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his group during the civil rights disturbances in Montgomery, AL (March 1965).
This armband measures approximately 12.5" long and 3.5" high.
