1809 O.112 R5- Capped Bust half dollar, PCGS XF details, code 98 for surfaces smoothed.  Based on our 50+ years of numismatic experience, we respectfully disagree.  This coin has been whizzed, which may technically fit the PCGS qualification, but is really its own category.  And, the coin might not be XF even if put back into circulation for a couple years!  This coin has the details (and the artificial luster) of a top-end AU, and - quite honestly - it looks pretty nice!  There is a bit of golden toning, the surfaces are quite smooth and free of marks, and the whizzer luster (some call propeller luster) is bold and darn impressive.  Of course, it isn't mint luster, but it does give that impression.  Additionally, this coin is as boldly struck as any 09-112 we've ever seen...and we've seen quite a few of them since 1984, the year we started to study this amazing series.   Further, although this is among the "easier" 1809 half dollar die marriages rated R5, it is a bear to find in AU or better.  This coin, though it will never grade, is the highest grade we've ever seen as well.  One lucky collector is gonna LOVE.  THIS.  COIN!!
